The title of Blue Box Ep. 7 “Can I Have One?” has multiple meanings. You can take it to mean that the questioner asking for one more match as practice, which is pretty obvious from the beginning of the episode. However, the other meaning only becomes clear when it reaches the end. All revolving around the love triangle blooming in this story, of course.

Said anime is the anime adaptation of the manga of the same name by Kouji Miura (I Love You, My Teacher). Telecom Animation Film (Tower of GodShenmue: The AnimationAstro Note) and TMS Entertainment (Detective ConanLupin the ThirdAnpanman) are both responsible for the anime, with them doing the animation, production, and planning, respectively.

Blue Box Ep. 7 “Can I Have One?”: Synopsis

You can already see the love beginning to blossom.

Alas, Blue Box is an ongoing anime that only fairly recently made its debut. In fact, Blue Box Ep. 7 “Can I Have One?” only made its debut four days ago as of this writing. Thus, I will present to you Netflix’s official synopsis for this episode instead of a spoiler-filled plot summary. You can read that synopsis below:

Chinatsu overhears rival players speak poorly about her recent game. Later, Hina playfully steals a bite from Taiki — and Chinatsu notices from afar.

I’m loving how Chinatsu is getting as much screen time as Taiki here.

The story of Blue Box Ep. 7 “Can I Have One?” is still the best part of this episode. However, it’s not just for the romantic comedy this time. The sports action is actually pretty good too. Not only that, but the episode even manages to show both Taiki and Chinatsu pretty equally. Both leads get roughly the same amount of screentime and focus, allowing us to get a peek into their respective sports and struggles, and in highly appropriate ways as well. Badminton is a solo sport with one player on each side, so the action feels highly personal to Taiki and his opponent.

However, basketball is a team sport, and so Chinatsu’s segments feels very cooperative due to a focus on her and her team. This creates a fascinating comparison and contrast between our leads that keeps the sports action quick and engaging. It’s definitely evidence that Kouji Miura is just as good at writing sports stories as she is in writing romantic comedies.

The animation of this episode is the other reason why it’s so good. Indeed, Telecom Animation Film and TMS Entertainment continue to show that they’re dedicated to making a very good-looking anime here. Seriously, the lighting, artwork, and overall animation are all feature-length anime film levels of quality. It’s enough to even make you forget about reality for a while. It seriously looks like Black Butler -Public School Arc- finally has competition in the animation department.

Honestly, the sports action made me miss the romantic comedy for a bit, but fortunately, it comes back pretty quickly.

Honestly, if you’re not into either sports action or romantic comedy, then Blue Box Ep. 7 “Can I Have One?” isn’t for you. Yes, the sports action is pretty intense and engaging, but it’s not quite the bloody action that of a typical action film. If you want that, then might I suggest watching Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no YaibaSolo LevelingKaiju No. 8DDDDDAN DA DAN, and/or Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II? Those anime should have more than enough action to satisfy any action junkie.
