If you’re like us, you’ve been waiting very patiently for anything about the upcoming Fantastic Four film from Marvel Studios. The crowd at San Diego Comic-Con got an exclusive look at the film that hasn’t been released yet to the public. Now, at least, some details are trickling out as filming on the gargantuan movie wraps up. Here’s the official synopsis straight from Marvel.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel’s First Family — Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they face their most daunting challenge yet.
Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.
The movie is due out on July 25th, 2025 and stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. It also stars Ralph Ineson, Julia Garner, John Malkovich, Paul Walter Hauser, Sarah Niles, and Natasha Lyonne. Matt Shakman is directing the film with a script from Peter Cameron, Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, Eric Pearson, and Ian Springer.
Our Thoughts On The Fantastic Four: First Steps Synopsis
Overall, this synopsis does confirm a couple of things about the film. It does confirm reports that Julia Garner is in fact playing a version of the Silver Surfer in the film. It also confirms that the film is set in a 60s-inspired world but not the actual 1960s like was rumored. Those two things make it noteworthy, but also shines some light on the familial relationship that the film is likely centered on. As for other appearances, we can assume that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom might make an appearance at some point in the film to set up the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
As for any other details, we’ll likely have to wait to see any official footage as they’re still shooting the film.
