The role of Lara Croft has been played by plenty of talented actresses through the years including Alicia Vikander and Angelina Jolie in live-action and most recently Hayley Atwell in the Tomb Raider animated show for Netflix. Now, Prime Video is developing their own live-action series based on the popular video game character. According to Deadline, Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) is in negotiations to play Lara Croft. The series comes from creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

The series has been a passion project for Waller-Bridge and Jennifer Salke, the head of Amazon MGM Studios called it “epic” and “globe-trotting” when they announced the series order in May.

Tomb Raider is executive produced by Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins through Wells Street Productions, Dmitri M. Johnson through dj2 Entertainment, Michael Scheel, and rights holders Legendary Television as well as Crystal Dynamics. Greenblatt and Andolina are consulting producers under their Star Party banner. The series is produced by Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios.

Sophie Turner is an Emmy nominee for her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones. She was a massive fan-favorite character during the run of that show. She currently stars in the British crime drama Joan and is starring in the upcoming show Haven, for Prime Video. This would be a major step for her career post-Game of Thrones.

As for the casting, she’s shown what she can do in regards to action on that show. Any actress stepping into the role would have some pretty big shoes to fill with the popularity of the Tomb Raider series. It started in the 90s and gave the Sony PlayStation one of its marquee characters and mascots. The series was revitalized in the 2010s with Crystal Dynamics trilogy of games.
