It sure looks like Denzel Washington has said a bit too much about an upcoming project. The Gladiator II actor sat down for an interview with the Today show in Australia and spilled some details about Black Panther 3. He stated what his upcoming projects were including Hannibal (about the famous general, not cannibal), a Steve McQueen film, and then of course, that Ryan Coogler was writing a part for him in “the next Black Panther“.
That’s interesting because Marvel has yet to announce anything about a new Black Panther film. It really shouldn’t be a surprise that Marvel has a third Black Panther film in the works. The first movie grossed over $1.3 billion at the box office, the second film in 2022 Black Panther: Wakanda Forever grossed $859 million at the box office in a depressed environment.
Letitia Wright took a larger role in the second film after the untimely passing of Chadwick Boseman. That second film was an emotional ride through grief and how to process it, leading to one of the current phase’s best Marvel films. That’s not all that’s coming out of Wakanda for the MCU though. They also have the animated series Eyes of Wakanda coming out on Disney+. It tells the story of Wakandan warriors traveling the world to recover dangerous vibranium artifacts. That series doesn’t have a release date currently.
Our Thoughts On Black Panther 3 And Denzel Washington
Obviously, getting an actor like Denzel Washington in your film is a huge development. It makes sense that Ryan Coogler would want to get him in the third Black Panther film in some way. A third Black Panther film would have to deal with the fallout of the second film and also what’s likely to come with the upcoming phases in the MCU. But there’s also no room on the release schedule for Marvel currently. They have openings in 2028 with three untitled films for February 18th, 2028, May 5th, 2028, and November 10th, 2028. Those all come after the events of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, which are supposed to cap off the current massive multiverse storyline going on right now.
We’ll have to see how all of this turns out when we get more news and confirmation from Marvel Studios.
