“Hippo” is now playing in theaters from Kinematics. It’s a very unique black-and-white coming-of-age story of two step-siblings co-written and starring Kimball Farley, and also starring Lilla Kizlinger.

TALKING WITH THE STEP-SIBLINGS

With the release of Hippo, I spoke with Kimball Farley and Lilla Kizlinger about the film. Kimball is a co-writer on the film and stars as Hippo. Kizlinger stars in the film as Hippo’s step-sister, Buttercup.

In our conversation, we talked about this unique take on the coming-of-age story. One where two-step siblings are trying to figure out life without very little, if any guidance. They both individually talk about finding their voices and characters that are a bit off. It was a great conversation that you can check out below!

MORE ABOUT “HIPPO”

This film examines the coming-of-age of two step-siblings: Hippo, a video-game addicted teenager and Buttercup, a Hungarian Catholic immigrant with a love of classical music and Jesus. Like the Ancient Greek Aphrodite, Buttercup’s love is unrequited by a brother who prefers to indulge the art of war and chaos. The result is a hormone-fueled, tragicomic waking nightmare that must be seen to be believed.
