“Hippo” is now playing in theaters from Kinematics. It’s a very unique black-and-white coming-of-age story of two step-siblings co-written and starring Kimball Farley, and also starring Lilla Kizlinger.

A CHAT WITH THE DIRECTOR

With the release of Hippo, I spoke with Mark H. Rapaport. He is making his feature directorial debut and is also a co-writer on this film. He shares with us why this was a the right project to kick start his directorial career. We talk about the coming-of-age theme of the film and how it can be interpreted as a dark comedy. It was a great conversation that you can check out below!

MORE ABOUT “HIPPO”

This film examines the coming-of-age of two step-siblings: Hippo, a video-game addicted teenager and Buttercup, a Hungarian Catholic immigrant with a love of classical music and Jesus. Like the Ancient Greek Aphrodite, Buttercup’s love is unrequited by a brother who prefers to indulge the art of war and chaos. The result is a hormone-fueled, tragicomic waking nightmare that must be seen to be believed.
