Get ready for more devious scares with Isabelle Fuhrman. Lionsgate just officially greenlit Orphan 3.
Variety first reported the news that the horror franchise will continue with a third film. Fuhrman, who played the lead Esther in both Orphan and Orphan: First Kill, will reprise her role. Orphan 3 will also see the return of writer David Coggeshall and director William Brent Bell.
Lionsgate will launch the project at the American Film Market this week. Production banner Dark Castle Entertainment revealed the plan to continue the horror franchise. However, plot details for Orphan 3 remain under wraps.
“Dark Castle is excited to announce another terrifying chapter in the ‘Orphan’ saga,” said Norman Golightly, Co-CEO of Dark Castle Entertainment. “With the past success of the first two movies and another thrilling storyline, we are confident that ‘Orphan 3’ will be a must-see movie for both current fans of the franchise, and new fans alike.”
The original 2009 film followed a husband and wife who, after losing their baby, adopt a nine-year-old girl who is not nearly as innocent as she first appears. Later, Fuhrman reprised her role in 2022’s Orphan: First Kill, a prequel which shows her character escape a psychiatric facility by pretending to be the missing daughter of a wealthy family. To date, the Orphan franchise has grossed over $125 million globally.
