Tom Cruise is on a hell of a roll for an actor right now. He’s in the middle of Mission: Impossible 8 and he recently put out Top Gun: Maverick. Now, according to THR, he’s looking at making a sequel to Days of Thunder. It wasn’t as big of a hit when it came out as Top Gun, but Cruise thinks he can revitalize the idea with a revival. The original was directed by the late Tony Scott. The only complications with the idea are that Cruise already has a hectic schedule with a mystery film from Alexander Innaritu at Warner Bros. a movie that is actually set in space with Doug Liman, and the sequel to Top Gun: Maverick. According to THR, it comes down to whatever movie gets developed first with a script, that one gets made first.

Racing movies have come more into vogue in recent years with films like Ferrari, Ford v Ferrari, F1, Gran Turismo, and others capturing audience’s attention. Mission: Impossible 8 is in post-production, so Cruise can at least cross that off his busy schedule until the time comes to promote the film. That project was hit hard by the Hollywood strikes, ballooning the budget to over $400 million. The trailer for that film should arrive in a couple of weeks and show off what the official title was. It’s no longer a part two to Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning.

Here’s a synopsis of Days of Thunder.

Coming off a successful open wheels career, Cole Trickle is recruited by used car salesman Tim Daland to be his driver in the NASCAR Cup series. After proving his talent, he is paired with legendary former crew chief Harry Hogge. Through a tumultuous rookie debut and lack of team chemistry, Cole confides in Harry in order to find success in a sport he knows very little about.

We’ll have to see how all of this shakes out with Tom Cruise and his busy schedule.
