The Gundam universe is coming to American audiences with a new live-action film. According to Deadline, Sweet Tooth showrunner Jim Mickle has landed the job of directing the upcoming giant-mech film. Mickle will also produce the film alongside his partner Linda Moran through their company Nightshade.

Gundam is huge in Japan and is one of the longest running and prolific anime series out there. The film should start filming in early 2025. The Gundam series spans 83 animated series and movies with a massive toy and retail business as well. It generates over $600 million annually. This will be the first live-action film in the series.

Legendary has been trying to get this project off the ground for quite a long time and they’re very high on this project. They were working on a movie with Netflix at one point but they’re not involved any longer. Mickle previously worked with Netflix on their show Sweet Tooth. It landed 20 Emmy nominations and won four of them.

As for plot details about the upcoming film, they’re under wraps for now.
