Neon is planning on bringing us a haunted house story like we’ve never seen before. In the first full trailer for Presence, we’re introduced to the feature’s unique conceit: the camera and POV come not from the family, but the ghostly presence itself haunting them.

Check out the trailer for the film below.

The logline for Presence keeps things simple. It reads, “A family moves into a suburban home and becomes convinced they’re not alone.”

The film comes from director Steven Soderbergh, whose wide range of credits include Sex, Lies and Videotape, Erin Brockovich, Ocean’s Eleven, Magic Mike, and Contagion. Soderbergh discussed the unique perspective of the upcoming film ahead of its premiere at Sundance earlier this year.

“I wanted to find a different way to tell the story,” Soderbergh told Variety. “Everything is revealed through the glimpses of this family that this presence sees. And the whole ghost genre element is a Trojan horse to show a group of people in danger of falling apart.”

Soderbergh will direct the screenplay for Presence written by David Koepp. Koepp’s credits include the original Mission: Impossible and Jurassic Park films, as well as Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, Panic Room, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

The film stars Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, Callina Liang, Eddy Maday, West Mulholland, and Julia Fox.

Presence will officially premiere in theaters January 24, 2025. Until then, check back to THS for more updates.
