Hey everybody, have you heard the news? Joe Bob is back in town. This week, Joe Bob and Darcy gave us a satanic-themed Halloween double feature. The movies shown were Satan’s Little Helper and Late Night with the Devil.

If you’re unfamiliar, every second week on The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs. The former Monstervision host and his co-host Darcy The Mail Girl feature a movie; that sometimes has a timely theme (although, it’s not always necessary). This was the show’s annual Halloween special.

Satanic Panic

The Last Drive-In

While certainly not as strong of a line-up, this was an OK line-up of films. I wouldn’t put this above Joe Bob’s Halloween Hootenanny which showed three Halloween movies; nor above Joe Bob’s Halloween Hangout but I’d say I enjoyed it more than Joe Bob’s Halloween Hideaway and Joe Bob’s Helloween.

While Satan’s Little Helper was a solid choice of a movie, and it was good to see a guest on the show in the director Jeff Lieberman; I wouldn’t classify the film as a ‘great’ film or even ‘good’ by the standards of this show.

As for Late Night With The Devil, it’s a good film admittingly but was it just me or did it feel like a bit too soon for it to be on The Last Drive-In? It’s a good film, but myself and many others only recently saw the movie when it came to Shudder which wasn’t that long ago, April of this year.

I certainly get that Shudder wants some brand synergy and to market the movie but it just felt a bit too soon. I saw people on social media turning off their streams early as they had already seen the film. Still, it is a good movie and whether you haven’t seen it yet, or just want to re-watch it, I can’t argue against this being the best way to experience the film.

Conclusion

While not the strongest Halloween special, it’s hard to argue against some solid films with both movies having guests on. The show emphasizes that it is the best way to experience the films.

The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs airs live on Shudder every second Friday (when the season airs) at 6pm PST / 9pm EST. If you miss the live airing, episodes are archived and posted the following Sunday.
