Subnautica released all the way back in 2018 to quite a bit of critical acclaim. Developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment really had a hit on their hands with that underwater survival game, which at least some players can agree is also secretly a survival horror game. Really, the fact that the game won two Golden Joystick Awards: one for PC Game of the Year and the other for UWE themselves for Breakthrough, should tell you that much.

Then three years later in 2021, UWE continued with that success with Subnautica: Below Zero. It wasn’t really a sequel to the first game. More like a spin-off, since it was originally meant to be a paid DLC expansion. Still, it received nearly as rave reviews as the first game, and thus, cemented the franchise’s success.

Alas, it has been three years since then, with UWE only hinting and teasing at a sequel…until now. Now at last, UWE have unveiled an official teaser trailer for Subnautica 2. Don’t believe me? Subnautica 2: Teaser Details

I see the ocean is even more terrifying than it was in the first game. Excellent.

Unknown Worlds Entertainment is proud to finally announce Subnautica 2 with an official teaser trailer on YouTube. Said teaser trailer not only reveals some more scary things inhabiting this underwater alien world, but also highlights the coop nature of this sequel. Yes, that’s right. The devs announce that this sequel will feature an optional coop mode. That means you can either choose to play alone, or play with up to three friends. It strikes the perfect balance between singleplayer and multiplayer in my opinion, giving you the perfect options for both.

Fortunately, UWE also gives us an ETA for this sequel. In that same teaser, UWE announces that Subnautica 2 will enter Early Access sometime next year in 2025. The end of the teaser also reveals that this sequel will be for the PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), Xbox Game Pass, and Xbox Series S/X. You can in fact wishlist the game in the links above. However, astute readers will notice that PlayStation is not included among the platforms. Alas, PlayStation is not known for allowing Early Access titles in their store. We will likely have to wait for the game to leave Early Access before we get a PlayStation version. Fingers crossed for all us PS4 and PS5 players.
