ABC’s long-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy just scored a new surgeon. Deadline reports that Sophia Bush has officially joined the cast in a major recurring role for season 21.
Bush will play Dr. Cass Beckman, a trauma surgeon at Seattle Presbyterian. Her husband, David Beckman, works as a cardiothoracic surgeon at Grey Sloan. (David Beckman’s casting has yet to be revealed.)
Bush previously delved into the world of medical dramas with the CBS series Good Sam; she executive produced the series and played the title character, a heart surgeon.
The Grey’s Anatomy casting marks the latest in big career news for Bush. Less than two months ago, we learned that the actor will reprise one of her best-known roles: Brooke from One Tree Hill. Bush joins Hilarie Burton as executive producers and stars of an upcoming One Tree Hill sequel series headed to Netflix.
Season 21 of Grey’s Anatomy premiered on ABC on September 26. New episodes air weekly on Thursday nights at 10pm.
Bush will first appear as Dr. Beckman in the sixth episode of the current season, which airs on November 7. Until then, check back to THS for more updates.
