Megazone 23 is an anime film series that probably most everyone here has never heard about, myself included. The long story short version is: this is a three-part mecha action and cyberpunk OVA series that made their debut as a series of anime films from 1985 to 1989. Critics praised for its “black and cynical look at mankind and technology” despite its apparently smaller budget compared to other anime. Heck, this anime film series bore so much of a resemblance to the later The Matrix series that people suspected this was one of its influences. The Wachowskis deny this, but it does make you wonder.
Thus, fans of classic anime would likely be very curious about Megazone 23. Alas, because of its age, it’s rather hard to find as a home video release. Fortunately, Animeigo have realized that this is the case, and are busy doing something about it.
Megazone 23 – The Complete Collection: Home Video Release Details
Animeigo is proud to announce that they are about to release Megazone 23 – The Complete Trilogy on home video. To be precise: they plan to release the entire trilogy on Blu-ray. Alas, that Blu-ray release isn’t quite out yet. Animeigo plans to release Megazone 23 – The Complete Collection on November 12, 2024. However, you can still preorder the collection at Anemeigo for $39.99.
Note though: Animeigo does not ship to Australia or New Zealand for some reason. Anyone who tries to order this Blu-ray from those regions will have their orders cancelled. In which case, you have my condolences.
