DC Studios is nearing the end of their search for the Green Lantern opposite Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan in their series Lanterns. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the search has narrowed down to two actors, Aaron Pierre and Stephan James. They’re reporting that Damson Idris was also in the running, but is no longer in contention. The two are testing or reading for the part, and a choice could be made by the end of the weekend.
Lanterns comes from Chris Mundy and Damon Lindelof. Tom King is writing the script with the two of them. Mundy is the showrunner for the project. Kyle Chandler recently landed the role of Hal Jordan. Lanterns should have a gritty, somewhat buddy cop vibe like True Detective. It follows Jordan as he mentors a younger Lantern in John Stewart. John Stewart is a massive fan-favorite character and has been since his debut in 1971.
Aaron Pierre recently had a star-making performance in Netflix’s Rebel Ridge. That film showed off his chops as an action star. Stephan James has starred in films like Selma, 21 Bridges, and If Beale Street Could Talk.
Here’s what DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran had to say about the series.
“John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and Lanterns brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with Superman,”
