Uzumaki is Japanese for “spiral”, which is exactly what this manga is all about. Renowned horror mangaka Junji Ito (Dissolving Classroom, Gyo, Tomie) delves into the horror around spirals in this manga. In fact, he delves so far into it that most everyone considers it to be his magnum opus. After all, it did get nominated for an Eisner award, and placed in the Young Adult Library Services Association’s list of the “Top 10 Graphic Novels for Teens”. All that positive critical reception on top of that seems to cement the greatness of this manga.

Which does explain why Adult Swim would be so interested in an anime adaptation of Uzumaki. Don’t believe me? Then why not check out their new official trailer below, and see for yourself if this story is creepy enough for your tastes?

Uzumaki: Details

Miss, I do believe that you need to see a doctor about that.

Adult Swim is proud to announce that Uzumaki will soon air on Toonami with a new official trailer on YouTube. This anime borne of the Junji Ito manga of the same name will make its TV debut on September 28, 2024 at 12:30 a.m. local time. New episodes will air weekly, for a grand total of four episodes. Each episode will make that debut in Japanese audio with English subtitles, with an English dub airing on the Thursday afterwards starting on October 3, 2024.

Adult Swim isn’t the only place where you can watch this anime though. Uzumaki will also stream on HBO Max, both English sub and dub, the day after their airing on Adult Swim.

Bonus: Logo and Synopsis

Uzumaki logo.
Even the logo is creepily spiral-shaped.

That’s not all, folks! Adult Swim also has the official synopsis for Uzumaki to tease the rather creepy story. You can check out that synopsis below:

“Let’s leave this town together,” asks Shuichi Saito, a former classmate of Kirie Goshima, a high school girl who was born and grew up in Kurouzu-cho. Everything from a strange whirlwind, billowing smoke from the crematorium, and the residents is turning into spirals. People’s eyes spin in whirls, a tongue spirals, and the bodies twist unnaturally. In an attempt to escape the curse of the spirals, Kirie decides to flee from Kurouzu-cho, but can she get away from this turmoil?
