Ryan Murphy returns with another true crime series for Netflix. Following the success of Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Murphy turns the spotlight on one of the most notorious murder cases of the ‘90s. Check out the first official trailer for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story below.

The series chronicles the case of real-life brothers who were convicted in 1996 of murdering their parents. Here’s the official synopsis provided by Netflix:

While the prosecution argued they were seeking to inherit their family fortune, the brothers claimed – and remain adamant to this day, as they serve life sentences without the possibility of parole – that their actions stemmed out of fear from a lifetime of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse at the hands of their parents.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story dives into the historic case that took the world by storm, paved the way for audiences’ modern-day fascination with true crime, and in return asks those audiences: Who are the real monsters?

The series stars Javier Bardem (José Menendez), Chloë Sevigny (Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez), Cooper Koch (Erik Menendez), Nicholas Alexander Chavez (Lyle Menendez), Nathan Lane (Dominick Dunne), and Ari Graynor (Leslie Abramson).

Murphy executive produces the series, in addition to directors Ian Brennan, Paris Barclay, Carl Franklin, Michael Uppendahl, and Max Winkler. Star Bardem also executive produces. Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, David McMillan, and Louise Shore round out the EP team.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story will premiere on Netflix September 19. Until then, check back to THS for more updates.
