When you hear the term “food porn,” you usually thing of Instagram photos of gourmet meals or cooking videos. Not so for the creative team behind Sausage Party: Foodtopia…. But we’ll get to that in a minute. The big news out of Comic-Con International (SDCC 2024) is that the raucous, raunchy follow-up to the Sausage Party film will get a second season on Prime Video.

Picking right up where the film left off, the Foodtopia series explores the aftermath of the food becoming the dominant species. “They’re  hit with things they didn’t expect,” co-creator Kyle Hunter. “Like rain, heat, random bird attacks, you know.” Every revolution comes at a cost. The upcoming Season 2 will explore those costs in greater detail. It will show us where else to food revolution has gone, as well. And yes, there’s the sex.

Sausage Party: Foodtopia renewed for Season 2.

Co-creator Seth Rogan is no stranger to pushing the comedic envelope. Neither is Kyle Hunter. When asked about the, well, inspiration for the food orgies seen in the film and Foodtopia series, he chuckled and said that it’s basically a release and outlet for the creators. If you think they’re bad, though, you should see the animators: “they took it to the next level,” said Hunter Often times he and Rogan would have to reel them in.

Sausage Party: Foodtopia; SDCC 2024
Co-Creator Kyleb Hunter (1st from L) speaks to the media about Sausage Party: Foodtopia at Comic-Con International on July 26, 2024.

When asked about the parallels between Foodtopia and Planet of the Apes, Hunter admitted that the former was a big inspiration for the film and series. “Food becomes the dominant species, so yes [Planet of the Apes] was a big reference point.” So what’s coming for Season 2? “The next evolution of food sexuality.”

I’m not sure if I should be excited…. Or frightened. For now, you can watch Sausage Party: Foodtopia Season 1 on Amazon Prime Video.
