AEW held their inaugural Battle For The Booty event at San Diego Comic-Con 2024. The pro wrestling company sent out two of their best intergender tag-teams in Orange Cassidy and Willow Nightingale and the team of Johnny TV and Taya Valkyrie. Adult Swim also happened to bring their A-game with tag teams of Meatwad from Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Fang from Primal and the team of Rachel from YOLO and Mr. Frog from Smiling Friends. The tournament was held on the lawn in the Adult Swim Pirate Party. First off we saw action between Meatwad’s team and Johnny/Taya.

Very quickly into the match it was clear that the crowd was absolutely scorching hot for Meatwad. Johnny and Taya were dastardly, making comments about how much better Los Angeles is than San Diego, and using some underhanded tactics to put Fang and Meatwad down. The action went quickly, with Meatwad and Fang gaining an advantage. Meatwad looked like they were going to hit their finishing move and get the 1-2-3 after a bruising senton to BOTH Taya and Johnny in the corner. However, luck was not on Meatwad and Fang’s side as Johnny TV hit Meatwad and got the pin.

Meatwad and Fang got one more loud cheer of adoration from the crowd before heading to the back, defeated.

Up next was a battle of fan-favorites with Orange Cassidy teaming with Willow Nightingale against Rachel and Mr. Frog. The action this time around was much more frenetic. Willow and Rachel battled over who would get to finish a beer bottle first and the match broke down in the middle with Mr. Frog and OC spilling to the outside.

Once the referee got everything sorted and all the bodies were back in the ring, it looked like Rachel and Mr. Frog had OC and Willow on the ropes. However, all the drinking that Rachel had done, was their demise, after she fell drunkenly off the top rope, Orange Cassidy hit the Orange punch on Mr. Frog for the win.

Finally, it all came down to this. Orange Cassidy and Willow Nightingale vs. Johnny TV and Taya Valkyrie. Except Johnny TV and Taya chose to attack their opponents before the opening bell. Once they rolled into the ring, it looked like they’d quickly dispatch OC and Willow. They had other plans and after some back and forth, Orange Cassidy and Willow prevailed and won the inaugural Battle For The Booty championships. However, Mr. Frog and Rachel had other ideas, they came out and started beating down OC and Willow.

That led to one of the most insane moments of Comic-Con. Buff Rick and Buff Summer from Rick and Morty came tearing down the ramp to make the save and battle back Mr. Frog, Taya, Johnny TV, and Rachel. They sent the crowd home happy and the heroes posed one last time on the ramp with their heads and hands held high.

Overall this was an extremely fun pro wrestling event. It captured the attention of a crowd who might not know what AEW is all about and gave them a showcase. The Battle For The Booty was definitely an event that AEW should bring back for next year’s Comic-Con and beyond!
