The Her Universe Fashion Show celebrates a major milestone this year. Take a peek inside the 10th annual Her Universe Fashion Show at San Diego Comic-Con 2024!
This year’s show was co-presented by Mattel, paying tribute to 65 years of Barbie and 35 years of Polly Pocket. Of course, since it was also a huge anniversary for the Fashion Show itself, the event featured a ton of tributes to shows and designers from the past decade.
Her Universe founder Ashley Eckstein opened the show with a recorded message celebrating the 10th anniversary and telling guests her “Barbie Story”. Eckstein then appeared on stage in a life-size Barbie box, which used cutting-edge fabric mapping projects to let her quickly change through several iconic Barbie looks.
Broadway star Michael James Scott joined Eckstein to co-host the Fashion Show for the second year in a row. He first appeared in his own Barbie-inspired hot pink look, and delighted the audience with a ballad performance of Katy Perry’s “Roar.”
Celebrating 10 Years of the Her Universe Fashion Show
Throughout the night, the Her Universe Fashion Show kept its decade of history in mind. Previous competition winners recorded videos about what taking place in the fashion show meant to them, and how it continues to be a big part of their lives. Winners of both the judges’ award and the audience award from years of previous shows even returned to the runaway!
Eckstein and Scott likewise debuted multiple Mattel-inspired couture looks throughout the show, including tributes to Hot Wheels, Polly Pocket, and UNO.
Meet the 2024 Fashion Show Designers
During the fashion show, 25 talented designers debuted their looks inspired by Mattel properties. The Her Universe Fashion Show then chooses two winners: one selected by a panel of judges, and one selected by audience popular vote. The judges for the 10th annual show include 2023 fashion show winners Rachel Petterson and Raeven K; Robin Motts, SVP of Hot Topic Merchandising; Vivienne Medrano, creator of Prime Video’s Hazbin Hotel; and Robert Best, VP of Barbie Product Design at Mattel.

Competition Winners
At the 10th annual Fashion Show, the panel of judges selected Wes Jenkins as the winner for his Barbie-inspired look, which featured hundreds of actual vintage Barbie clothes sewn together to pay tribute to the doll’s 65 years.
The audience also voted to select a winner and chose Candice Miller. Her Dune-inspired look featured an elaborate weaving of metal scales into a full-body gown.
The winning designers receive the opportunity to design a collection with Her Universe. But since the Fashion Show celebrated a major milestone this year, both winners also received a bonus prize of $10,000!
