Reports have been swirling about Matt Reeves next project – The Batman. They recently announced that Rob Pattinson will be playing the iconic billionaire, playboy, vigilante. Right now that is all we know, but rumors are saying Andy Serkis may be joining the cast as a currently unknown villain.
A History of Brilliance
If this rumor hold, it will not be the first time Matt Reeves and Andy Serkis will work together. The two already teamed up for the making of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and the sequel, War For the Planet of the Apes. Serkis played the lead role of Caesar. Together the two completed one of the great trilogies of all time.
Matt Reeves has described The Batman as a noir film in the early years of the caped crusader, and he wants to concentrate on Batman’s most ignored power – the power of deduction and investigation. A film like that could really draw the best out of Andy Serkis and what he does when acting.
Get This Man a Script and an Oscar!
Andy Serkis has quietly built a reputation and resume as one of the finest actors in Hollywood that no one will think of. For most of his career Andy hid not behind makeup but behind CGI computer designs. In fact his first major role should have won him an Oscar. He has had many projects before Lord of the Rings, but it his role as Gollum drew many people’s attention.
Many lost themselves in the computer quality of the role of Gollum, but it was Andy’s performance that turned the world of motion capture technology into performance capture perfection. Andy should have been nominated for his role in The Two Towers. Hell, he should have been nominated for his role as Caesar in the Apes movies!
Do not lose track of what else Andy Serkis has done. Besides Gollum and Caesar, he has also played King Kong, King Bohan in the Heavenly Sword video game (That he also directed), and Supreme Leader Snoke. The one role where we actually saw his face was in Black Panther where he played Ulysses Klaue. I felt cheated that they didn’t do more with his character he was so good.
No Mixed Feelings Here
When they recently announced Rob Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, the internet blew up with excitement and disdain at the choice. Many say Rob is the best choice out of the crop of current young actors to take up the mantle of the Bat. Others feel he will not fit the role as they recall is acting history in the Twilight saga.
Whether Andy play Penguin, Two-Face, Riddler, or some other villian, look for a great performance from him. I am honestly shocked more directors in Hollywood don’t chase after his acting talents. Whatever the role he will knock it out of the park. With a Director like Reeves, let’s hope this movie can rival The Dark Knight in prestige.
