DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 7 is an interesting mix of contrasts. On one hand, this episode features a cute first date between a young boy and girl. On the other hand, we have the backdrop of the alien presence putting a constant damper on everything. This includes the aliens themselves, since they find out to their horror that humans are the true monsters here.

This is definitely Ai’s turn to shine.

There’s no doubt about it; it’s the story of DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 7 that fascinates and intrigues me. Much of this episode is basically a fun slice of life story that further develops the main characters, especially Ai Demoto. She’s the star of the show thanks to this episode being effectively from her point of view the whole time as she’s engaging in fun high school romance.

However, sprinkled throughout that slice of life are hints of darker things happening in the background. Mostly centered around the JSDF and what their war against the aliens. The aliens who have no wish to fight anyone to boot, and are depicted as the victims of the worst of humanity, especially at the end of this episode. It’s this depiction of humans as the true monsters that’s what makes this episode, and by extension this whole anime, so compelling. I have to give thanks to Inio Asano for creating such a wonderful story.

Of course, complementing that story is the animation. Production +h. continues to maintain a high level of animation quality with this episode, which includes some wonderful landscape shots of the downed alien ships draped over parts of Tokyo. It’s no wonder too. They made the original anime film duology that this anime was adapted from. It only makes sense that they would put in as much effort for the anime series.

DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 7: The Bad

Darn, now you’ve gone and made her cry.

There is actual action in DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 7 in the form of military action. However, it’s all concentrated at the end, and it’s more tragic and disturbing than it is heart-pounding. If you want that, then you might want to check out Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Solo Leveling, and/or Kaiju No. 8. Those should have more than enough action to satisfy any action junkie.
