DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 5 may seem a little odd until you recall what happened in the previous episode. At the end of that episode, we got a brief glimpse into the childhoods of Kadode and Oran/Ontan. In this episode, that brief glimpse expands into a much bigger look at that same childhood, revealing that it has a sci-fi twist to it.

Thus, you will all get the official synopsis of this episode from Crunchyroll in place of a spoiler-filled plot summary. You can check out that synopsis below:

DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 5: The Good
I sound like a broken clock by now, but I have reason for it. That reason is that I just love anime with great stories, and DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 5 has a great story indeed, courtesy of Inio Asano. Mostly for being able to see Kadode’s and Oran’s pasts, and the wild events that happened to them in their elementary school days. It really makes you wonder about how all those events impacted their present-day personalities, and if they’re even surprised at the massive UFO hanging over them in that present day. Heck, you even start to wonder if they’re somehow responsible for why that UFO is even there in the first place.
It’s also surprising to see what Kadode and Oran were like as kids, especially the latter. Given her wild and free present-day personality, you’d be just as surprised as I was to see just how timid she was back in her youth. There’s a bit of plot that might explain why, but it’s currently uncertain if this is the case. We’ll just have to see in the next episode.
And of course, the animation is as excellent as always. Production +h. continue to do a really good job with the animation quality. Which is quite fitting since they are also responsible for the anime film versions of this anime. It perfectly explains why this anime has feature-length anime film levels of animation quality and a weird aspect ratio to boot. In this case, that includes some impressive aerial shots of Japan due to a case of flying children. You’ll see why in the episode.
DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 5: The Bad
Alas, if you’re an action junkie, then DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 5 isn’t for you. What little action in this episode is more dramatic in nature than the high-intensity action of a Michael Bay film. If you want that, then you might want to check out Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Solo Leveling, and/or Kaiju No. 8. Those should have more than enough action to satisfy any junkie.
