The ultimate sequel is headed our way. Disney’s ready for a new Freaky Friday film, and production just officially kicked off. The 2003 comedy starred Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as a mother and daughter who wake up one morning only to find they’ve swapped bodies.

We previously learned that both Curtis and Lohan would return to lead the upcoming sequel. Now, Disney teased the official start of production with promos of the duo on set. In a TikTok video, the two actors pose outside trailers with their names on the door — and in the spirit of the film, they’re posing in front of one another’s doors.

In addition to Curtis (Tess) and Lohan (Anna), Disney revealed several other original cast members returning for the sequel. Mark Harmon and Chad Michael Murray will reprise their Freaky Friday roles. Harmon played Tess’ fiance and Murray played Anna’s crush Jake. Other actors also slated to return include Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao.

Plus, Disney confirmed a few new names for Freaky Friday 2, including Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.

Described as “a sequel to the beloved 2003 film with a multigenerational twist,” Freaky Friday 2 picks up years after Tess and Anna endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.

The film will release in theaters in 2025. Meanwhile, check back to THS for more updates.
