One of Tim Burton’s most iconic characters makes a return this fall. And today, Warner Bros. gave us a new look at Michael Keaton’s demonic trickster in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The studio dropped the sequel feature’s first full-length trailer. Check it out below.
The upcoming follow-up to the 1988 classic features several key actors reprising their roles from the original film. In addition to Keaton’s Beetlejuice, the film also features Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz and Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz. The extended cast also features Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Arthur Conti, Jenna Ortega, and Willem Dafoe.
Here’s the sequel’s official synopsis from WB:
Beetlejuice is back! After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.
Burton returns, directing from a screenplay by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. He reunites with creative team members from across various past projects, including production designer Mark Scruton (Wednesday), editor Jay Prychidny (Wednesday), Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (Alice in Wonderland, Sweeney Todd, Sleepy Hollow), Oscar-winning creature effects and special makeup FX creative supervisor Neal Scanlan (Sweeney Todd, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Oscar-nominated composer Danny Elfman (Big Fish, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Batman), and Oscar-winning hair and makeup designer Christine Blundell (Topsy-Turvy).
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice premieres in theaters September 6. Until then, check back to THS for more updates.
