Much has been said in this past year on the quality of Madame Web in terms of the movie itself, but how is the recently released 4K UHD Blu-Ray? Does it polish this dull film or does it leave it even more sheenless than ever?

Madame Web’s Video And Audio Quality

Madame Web may suffer from some cinematography and CGI issues that dull the movie; but I will say that this Blu-Ray impressed me with a robust 2160 transfer that really boosts the colors with crisp and striking contrast. In particular I really found that the color red really struck; and it’s a Spider-Man (universe) movie so yes, there are a lot of red’s!

Textures also come across as striking. With everything looking detailed and beautiful as only 4K UHD can provide. Again, this is a movie with very clear issues with the visuals in terms of how it was all shot. That said, this is a flawless transfer and Sony shows why they really are great with their home video releases as they really push the 4K UHD Blu-Ray to its limits.

The audio is also very impressive when there’s action. I noticed that the movie really had booming audio tracks that kicked in at the exact right moment when the action was coming on. That said, this is not a movie with wall-to-wall action. This is a movie with a lot of exposition-heavy dialogue. It’s a shame because had this had more action it could’ve really showcased the audio strength of this transfer. However, it’s extremely limited and mostly relegated to the action-packed third act.

Special Features For Madame Web

The Blu-Ray comes with the following special features:

Gag Reel

Easter Eggs

Oracle Of The Page

Fight Like A Spider

Future Vision

Casting The Web

Deleted Scene

None of these are particularly engaging or interesting. The Blu-Ray lacks a commentary and most of these special features won’t really enrich your experience unless you’re a die-hard fan of this movie.

Verdict:

While it would have been easy to simply deliver a mediocre package for Madame Web, Sony elected to give the best audio and video presentation possible. It may not be a great movie but this 4K UHD Blu-Ray will give you the best possible way to appreciate this movie, should you be in the mood to do so.
