Fans of the hit Disnet+ series STAR WARS: TALES OF THE JEDI were….. Starring Diana Lee Inosanto (Morgan Elsbeth), Meredith Salenger (Barriss Offee), Rya Kihlstedt (Lyn aka Fourth Sister), Wing T. Chao (Wing), Lars Mikkelsen (Thrawn), Jason Isaacs (Grand Inquisitor) and Matthew Wood (General Grievous); STAR WARS: TALES OF THE EMPIRE will tell the stories of Morgan Elsbeth and former Jedi Barriss and how their choices lay out their futures. This series will launch on May 4, 2024, on Disney+ but thanks to our friends over at Disney+ I got an early screening of the series to review.

STAR WARS: TALES OF THE EMPIRE

Star Wars: Tales of the Empire” is a six-episode journey into the fearsome Galactic Empire through the eyes of two warriors on divergent paths, set during different eras. After losing everything, young Morgan Elsbeth navigates the expanding Imperial world toward a path of vengeance, while former Jedi Barriss Offee does what she must to survive a rapidly changing galaxy. The choices they make will define their destinies.

I have decided to break this review up and talk about the episodes that focus on the characters. So just like STAR WARS: TALES OF THE JEDI, TALES OF THE EMPIRE was broken up into three short stories for each character. The first story starts with Morgan Elsbeth. We are first taken to the plant Dathomir where Elsbeth’s people were massacred and from there, her anger leads her down a path to where she teams up with Thrawn. I won’t go into too much but you will soon see how this story connects throughout the STAR WARS universe.

The last three stories pick up with former Jedi Barriss Offee. Here we see Offee as she is released from prison and given the chance to become an inquisitor. During her training, she does what she has to do to survive but will it be enough? Offee will have to make a choice and that choice will define her destiny. Again these episodes are short but once again you will see how her story connects to others.

MY FINAL THOUGHTS

First, with these stories being so short, I wanted to keep things brief so as not to spoil anything. Now I’m going to put this out there, while the TALES OF THE EMPIRE was good, I feel like TALES OF THE JEDI was better. I felt like we started strong with the Morgan Elsbeth story but there was just something about the Barriss Offee story that let me down a little.

Now again I am not trying to spoil things but it felt like her story didn’t fit well with the Empire theme, you will see what I mean after you watch it. Returning to the Elsbeth story, it connects to some stories we have already seen and answers some questions as well. Once again Dave Filoni does a great job in his storytelling and visions of Star Wars. TALES OF THE EMPIRE is a must-watch for any fan.
