After almost a decade, Bridget Jones will return. Universal Pictures revealed plans for Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, which includes the return of some of the franchise’s biggest cast members.
Renée Zellweger will reprise her role as the romantic comedy film series’ title character. Hugh Grant will also return as Daniel Cleaver. Finally, Emma Thompson, who appeared in the 2016 film Bridget Jones’s Baby, will appear in the fourth film as well.
Mad About the Boy will also feature new characters played by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Leo Woodall.
The Bridget Jones series adapts the novels written by Helen Fielding. Fielding penned the script for Mad About the Boy, which will adapt her 2013 novel. The story follows a Bridget Jones in her early 50s, navigating single motherhood and dating (a much younger man) years after losing her husband.
Michael Morris (To Leslie) will direct.
Zellweger first brought Bridget Jones to life in the 2001 feature Bridget Jones’s Diary. The role landed her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. Grant also starred in the first film, returning with Zellweger for the 2004 sequel, The Edge of Reason. Mad About the Boy will mark the franchise’s return after almost a decade, after Bridget Jones’s Baby in 2016.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy will premiere on Peacock on February 14, 2025 in the US. Internationally, the movie will release in theaters.
