Here’s the synopsis of The Spiderwick Chronicles from Roku:
The Grace family moves from Brooklyn, New York, to their ancestral home in Henson, Michigan, the Spiderwick Estate. Helen makes the move with her 15-year-old fraternal twin boys, Jared and Simon, and her older daughter, Mallory. Shortly after moving to the Spiderwick Estate Jared discovers a boggart and realizes that magical creatures are real! The only one to believe him is his great-aunt Lucinda who implores Jared to find the pages of her father’s field guide to magical creatures and protect them from the murderous Ogre, Mulgarath.
The Spiderwick Chronicles was originally picked up as a Disney+ project. However, the streamer ultimately decided not to move forward with the series. Months later, The Roku Channel rescued the show. Now, it will stream for free starting April 19. The Spiderwick books previously received a feature film adaptation, which released in 2008.
The series comes from showrunner Aron Eli Coleite and Executive Producer/Director Kat Coiro. The cast includes Joy Bryant, Christian Slater, Noah Cottrell, Lyon Daniels, Mychala Lee, and Jack Dylan Grazer. You can get another look at the actors in character in the images below.
The Spiderwick Chronicles season 1 will include eight episodes. You can stream them on The Roku Channel for free on April 19.
