Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened last week to near record numbers of guests. Star Wars fans world-wide had been waiting anxiously for the closest chance they’d ever get to visit the galaxy far, far away in real life. And let’s not forget: it is a Disney theme park, after all. Of course children are welcome. Just don’t call them younglings.

Initial reports were that Galaxy’s Edge cast members were told not to use the term when referring to children. That information came from YouTube personality Jenny Nicholson, who recounted her conversation with just such a cast member during her recent visit to Batuu. According to Cinemablend, Nicholson had this to say:

[A] cast member said ‘kids’ and I jokingly said ‘oh, younglings?’ and she blindsided me by telling me they’re already scrubbing ‘younglings’ from the vocab. Parents didn’t like it because one of the only times you hear it in the movies is the phrase ‘killing younglings.’ Fair.”

Perhaps reports of a ban have been premature. While the cast member statement certainly sounds plausible (we’ll save commentary on such parents being ridiculous and overly sensitive for another time), it is apparently not, in fact, the case. To the contrary, cast members are more than permitted to use the description for children at will. (Notwithstanding the fact that Episode III did almost show Anakin killing younglings as noted.)

Even reports from other sources confirm that there is no such ban:

Children in Black Spire Outpost are referred to as “younglings”…. The littlest ones travel via “youngling transport” — or what we on Earth would call a stroller.”

So there you have it. Upon reading the first rumors our initial reaction was “Dammit Anakin! Can’t we have anything nice??” Thankfully, it looks like we can refer to our children as younglings, after all.

Still… we recommend keeping the young…er, kids away from the build-your-own lightsaber facility. You know, just in case.
