Spoilers ahead if you peek into this Spider-Man web, so beware! The internet is abuzz with rumors that Far From Home‘s mid-credits scene will introduce Norman Osborn. Additionally, the movie itself it said to confirm that Oscorp owns Avengers Tower now. Can this be believed? Let’s dig a little deeper.

Comic Book Movie broke down some of the evidence, and we previously noted the rumor that Feige was looking into David Morrissey for an MCU role. Could The Walking Dead‘s “Governor,” in fact, play Osborn himself in the next Spider-Man? The source described the scene in question as follows:

When Spider-Man’s Enemies Gather

“The mid-credit scene starts off in a dark room, with chilling and villainous music. A defeated and sad looking Mysterio looks out the window from a skyscraper at night time. The view of the shot is within the building looking outwards, so you can’t see the building itself.

A voice is heard in the background (which sounds Russian), which says something like, “He beat us once, but soon he is going to pay.” Mysterio turns around and the voice is revealed to be from the Chameleon in his costume. Mysterio then says, “Dimitri, thanks for having my back out there.” Chameleon replies with, “Don’t worry, there are more of us.” Right then, the music gets darker while the Vulture (similar outfit as Homecoming with a few modifications), Scorpion (outfit similar to comics but few differences), Shocker (different outfit than Homecoming, it looks like the red and yellow suit from comics), and a man in a business suit walk in from another room.

The businessman gathers the villains together and says, “I have a proposal.” The camera pans out to the outside of the building, which is the old Stark/Avengers tower, which has the name “OSCORP” in large green font, at the same spot the Stark logo was, and shows it for a few seconds. The scene ends here. It was about 45 seconds but I have only seen the whole clip twice. I couldn’t tell if the businessman was Norman Osborn, or if he was simply an assistant, and I didn’t know the actor playing him.”

The Future of the MCU?

Spider-Man Green Goblin
Never Forget.

Whether the man was Osborn or his assistant, getting Adrian Toomes, Shocker, and Mac Gargan out of prison and into a room with his is a tall order. Is Spider-Man: Far From Home going to deal with their fates at all? The end of the previous film certainly suggested they’d be back, but maybe not this early.

Regardless, Osborn would make an interesting overarching villain for the next Phase of the MCU, tying various movies together in much the same way that Thanos once did with the Stones. It also suggests that Spider-Man will be the lynchpin of the next phase, which has a sense of poetry to it. After all, Peter is Tony’s successor in many ways.

r-man; Venom
Will Venom join the MCU?

Other rumors are brewing that Sony wants Tom Hardy’s Venom to join the next Spider-Man film. There are even whispers that the Dark Avengers are coming, so it it’s a stretch for Osborn to bring them together. Especially if Mysterio is only pretending to be a hero, as many fans expect. Either way, we’ll have a clearer picture by SDCC or D23 this year.
