Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic (KOTOR) will likely become a new Star Wars film. Laeta Kalogridis (Netflix’s Altered Carbon and Alita: Battle Angel) is writing the screenplay.
Bioware’s RPG video game, which fans simply call KOTOR, has been a fan favorite since 2003. The game tells the story of a clash between the Jedi and Sith nearly 4000 years before A New Hope. Referring to KOTOR, Kathleen Kennedy confirmed at the Star Wars Celebration in April that, “we are developing something to look at”.
According to a Buzzfeed report, Laeta Kalogridis has nearly completed the screenplay for a KOTOR film project. Additionally, the report claims that the project has the potential to become a trilogy of its own.
KOTOR, Confirmed
The addition of another Star Wars film project is great news for Star Wars fans who feared a slowdown after Solo’s box office blunder. It isn’t immediately clear whether this project is connected to Benioff and Weiss’s upcoming trilogy. Though many rumored about a connection to KOTOR earlier this year.
Lucasfilm has reintroduced several elements from Star Wars Legends into the growing canon. These include favorites such as Grand Admiral Thrawn or Czerka Arms. The addition of KOTOR into the canon is a huge step forward. Fans can expect that more and more of the original EU may make its way back into the official storyline.
Despite the 3-year break, it is clear that the Star Wars story will continue showing up on the big screen for years to come.
