Another Roald Dahl story will soon make its way to screen, by way of Wes Anderson. The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar will arrive on Netflix in September.
The short film (39 minutes) adapts Dahl’s short story of the same name. The story follows a rich man who learns about a guru who can see without using his eyes. He then sets out to master the skill in order to cheat at gambling.
The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar will come to life thanks to acclaimed filmmaker Wes Anderson. Anderson wrote, directed, and produced the adaptation. The short film will officially make its premiere during the Venice Film Festival (August 30 – September 9). Later, it will stream on Netflix. The film stars Ralph Fiennes, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, and Richard Ayoade.
The original Dahl story was published in 1977 as a collection of seven short stories, aptly titled The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More. Many of Dahl’s novels have made their way to the screen over the years, including James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, and The Witches, just to name a few.
So, what will Anderson bring to this adaptation? Fans won’t have too long to wait to find out. The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar will begin streaming on Netflix September 27.
