Tony Gilroy has never made it a secret that his Star Wars: Andor series will end right when Rogue One: A Star Wars Story begins. It’s a rather fitting way to conclude the Disney+ series really. It is a prequel to Rogue One, after all. In fact, Gilroy has even just revealed exactly how Cassian Andor’s story will transition into Jyn Erso’s story.
Star Wars: Andor ~ Passing the Torch from Cassian to Jyn (and How)
Empire has just revealed some juicy details about the upcoming season 2 of Star Wars: Andor. In fact, those details come straight from the mouth of showrunner, head writer, and executive producer Tony Gilroy himself. According to him: the final block of 3 episodes of Andor will cover “the last three days before Rogue One“. Presumably, each episode will cover the actions over a single day, counting down to that last fateful day before Cassian meets a young woman named Jyn Erso that results in them sealing both of their fates.
Not only that, but Tony Gilroy also gives us a teaser about the structure of Star Wars: Andor season 2. Also according to him: every few episodes will cause a year to skip by in-story. It’s definitely a sign that season 2 will be moving at a breakneck pace. In fact, Gilroy himself has a few words to say about it that outright confirms it. You can read those words for yourself below:
Look, man, I’m not trying to make a career here; if anything I’m on the downhill side of a long career. But this is an opportunity. This is 1,500 pages of the most dynamic material in these people’s lives to deal with. We got it right the first time, and you don’t want to let your foot off the gas.
As for when we’ll get to see Star Wars: Andor season 2 on Disney+? Well, it still has a release window of sometime in August 2024. Empire doesn’t give us a more exact release date, and we don’t know it either. Tune back in to THS later to find out that detail when we do. In the meantime, you can watch season 1 on Disney+ as a recap until then.
