Evil Dead Rise made an impressive debut, but The Mario Bros. leapt over the newcomers as they slowly close in on $1 Billion at the box office. With a global total currently at $871,836,610 as per Box Office Mojo the question is now: will they make $1 Billion before the arrival of Marvel’s latest, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.3.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie only saw a minuscule 37% drop in its box office from the previous week, making it the highest-earning animated movie in its third week. The last movie to accomplish this was Disney’s The Incredibles 2. In total, it’s the 7th-best domestic third weekend ever.
In our review of The Super Mario Bros. movie, reviewer Hunter Bolding said:
“There’s enough to love about The Super Mario Bros. Movie to overcome some of the faults. Nintendo fans have plenty of easter eggs, small details, and the entire Mushroom Kingdom to enjoy. For kids, this one will be perfect, and it’s entertaining enough for parents who have never played a Mario game to enjoy. It might not be a revolutionary movie, but it is exactly what you would expect out of a Super Mario Bros. movie.”
Evil Dead Rise made an impressive debut with a global total of $40,300,000; which is near twice its reported $19 Million budget. In our review, reviewer Hunter Bolding said:
“This is a truly terrifying movie that’s hard to do in a scary age that we live in. Evil Dead Rise is inventive with the way it uses horror tropes and subverts them, creating an atmosphere of tension and blood that you won’t forget.”
Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant landed in the third place slot, a far cry from the top two movies. John Wick: Chapter 4 continues to thrive in its 5th week with a fourth-place spot.
