Nine days later, and here we are: F9. The most recent installment in the Fast and Furious franchise, and the last we’re revisiting on our journey to the Fast X trailer debut.
You know how every Fast and Furious movie does something bigger and more impossible than the last? Oh yeah. We’re cranking things up yet again with this one. F9 once again sees Dom and the Fast Family tasked with literally saving the planet… all while dealing with the arrival of Dom’s estranged (and never before mentioned) brother, Jakob (John Cena).
Where to even BEGIN with this one? We’ve got “if you drive fast enough, you can outrun landmines.” We’ve got slingshotting your car off a cliff, and launching your car in the air to get magnetized to a plane. Roman and Tej go to SPACE. In a CAR launched into the atmosphere by a ROCKET CAR.
And that’s just the action. F9 also gives us the most family melodrama since Letty’s amnesia in Fast & Furious 6. Ultimate Family Man Dominic Toretto has an estranged brother! Han is back AGAIN (he faked his death)! Helen Mirren reprises her previous cameo, but this time gets to lead a car chase. Charlize Theron’s Cipher continues to stir up trouble. Tokyo Drift‘s Sean (Lucas Black) gets to be the one to launch a car into space. Both Cardi B and Bad Bunny get cameos.
In short, it’s the ultimate form of action-melodrama-spectacle. I can’t wait to see how things can possibly get more extreme in Fast X.
