Vince McMahon has been back in the news recently with his return to WWE. However, there’s more news that he likely doesn’t want anyone to hear about. The Wall Street Journal reports that Vince McMahon has reached a multi-million dollar settlement with Rita Chatterton, a former referee for WWE, stemming from her accusations of rape in 1986. She demanded $11.75 million in damages in a November letter to McMahon’s attorney. The sum they settled for isn’t known exactly but is said to be in the millions of dollars.
McMahon’s lawyer, Jerry McDevitt, says McMahon still denies raping Chatterton but settled with her “solely to avoid the cost of litigation.”
It’s another blow to the public image of McMahon, with rumors swirling that WWE could be sold to the highest bidder.
