Antoine Fuqua is taking on the life of Michael Jackson in a new biopic, titled Michael. Deadline reports that Lionsgate is doing a biopic of the famous singer/songwriter. The script is in by John Logan and will be produced by Graham King, who gave us Bohemian Rhapsody.
While Bohemian Rhapsody took on sensitive subject matters involving the life and times of Freddy Mercury, a movie about the life of Michael Jackson is a whole different beast. The film will make the most of Jackson’s musical accomplishments and recreate his career highlights, starting from the beginning with The Jackson 5 and going all the way to his work as an adult. But it will also deal with the pedophile accusations that dogged his later years up to his death in 2009 at age 50.
Fuqua is wrapping up The Equalizer 3 with Denzel Washington and then will move on to Michael. Production should begin later this year. They’re also reporting that Fuqua is bringing cinematographer Robert Richardson on board.
Lionsgate hopes they have another musical hit on their hands like Bohemian Rhapsody, which grossed $900 million+ at the global box office. Jackson was a masterful musician with hits across multiple decades and the number-one-selling album of all time in Thriller.
We’ll keep you updated on developments with Michael as they come in.
