If you have the Internet and love of Star Wars, then by now you have surely seen the video that’s take over the Web these past few days. It’s a remastered retelling of the lightsaber duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader aboard the first Death Star. Frankly it’s exactly what we would hope for in a fight between former master and apprentice. However, it’s led to an inevitable question. What are the best lightsaber duels in Star Wars? First, let’s show you what we’re talking about:
If this were to be considered canon, where do you think it would fall in the rankings of best lightsaber duels in Star Wars? For our purposes, we’re going to only consider those of the feature films… for now. What we’re not going to do is rank them. We’ll leave that to you and simple present these as being among the best.
Best Lightsaber Duels: Duel of the Fates
Knock The Phantom Menace all you want; it was to most one of the worst films of the franchise. Notwithstanding, it also gave us one of the best moments of the entire saga. The fight between Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, and Darth Maul is easily among the best lightsaber duels in Star Wars history.
Luke v. Vader, Round One
As the first of two lightsaber duels between Luke Skywalker and his father, this battle has to make the list. Luke has had so little training in the Force, yet faces his greatest foe for the sake of his friends. If nothing else, seeing a battered and beleaguered Luke Skywalker learn his lineage at the end of this one is enough to make it worthwhile.
