The National Treasure movie franchise is iconic. The first film released in 2004 and starred Nicolas Cage (Face/Off). Cage plays Historian and code-breaker Ben Gates. Gates has been searching for a hidden treasure his entire life. After figuring out a life-changing clue, Gates sets off on a journey to steal the Declaration of Independence. Then he needs to decode the map and find the treasure.
In the second film, Gates and his father set out on a more personal mission. Mitch Wilkinson (Ed Harris) claims that their ancestor was a conspirator in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. So, Gates and his friends set off to prove his ancestor’s innocence.
Now, the franchise is ready to take on a new generation with National Treasure: Edge of History!
SO WHAT IS NATIONAL TREASURE: EDGE OF HISTORY?
In the new Disney+ Original Series, National Treasure: Edge of History the writers/creators Cormac & Marianne Wibberley seem to have done a great job of combing the adventure of the original, along with the personal subject matter. In the new series, we meet Jess (Lisette Olivera), a young DREAMer who learns that her parents aren’t who she thought they were. After a happenstantial meeting with Sadusky (Harvey Keitel), Jess and her friends find themselves on a historical journey for a hidden treasure.
Making up Jess’s friend group is Ethan (Jordan Rodriques), the Jiminy Cricket of the group. Tasha (Zuri Reed), the brains and IT genius. Oren (Antonio Cipriano) is the charmer who is always getting into trouble. Then there’s Liam (Jake Austin Walker), the reluctant treasure hunter. Everyone in this group makes up the perfect escape room posse. They’re each good at their own parts, but Jess’s astute intuition and keen eye is something special.
No young adult treasure-hunting adventure like National Treasure: Edge of History would be complete without a villain, and that’s where Catherine Zeta-Jones comes in.
THE PUZZLES
You can tell that the creators of National Treasure: Edge of History put their hearts and souls into each and every scene where Jess and the team have to solve a complex puzzle. Keep and eye out. There are also a lot of nods to the original movie franchise making cameos that will make fans very excited.
On top of things like Benjamin Franklin’s glasses, there are a handful of original cast members reprising their roles for the series. However, at this point in time, Nicolas Cage isn’t supposed to make an appearance. But we never know what the future holds.
National Treasure: Edge of History is now streaming on Disney+ with episodes dropping weekly. Comment and let me know what you think of the new series!
