Kenneth Branagh‘s Hercule Poirot films have captured the fun and essence of Agatha Christie‘s murder mysteries very well. Murder On The Orient Express and Death On The Nile have both done reasonably well in theaters and on home video, and now they’re adding plenty of A-listers to the cast of the third film. Branagh returns to play Hercule Poirot and direct the film. He’s joined by Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan, Michelle Yeoh, Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Jude Hill, Ali Khan, Emma Laird, Kelly Reilly, and Riccardo Scamarico.
The film is based on Christie’s 1969 novel Hallowe’en Party. Production begins next month and will shoot in London and on location in Venice. It’s planned for a 2023 theatrical release. In the novel, Poirot is retired and living in the most glamorous city in the world. He’s drawn back into the line of duty after attending a seance at a haunted palazzo. One of the guests is murdered and he’s thrown into a sinister world of shadows and secrets.
Michael Green is writing the script. He wrote the previous two adaptations of Christie’s novels, Murder on the Orient Express and Death On The Nile. Branagh had this to say about the upcoming film:
This is a fantastic development of the character Hercule Poirot, as well as the Agatha Christie franchise, Based on a complex, little known tale of mystery set at Halloween in a pictorially ravishing city, it is an amazing opportunity for us, as filmmakers, and we are relishing the chance to deliver something truly spine-chilling for our loyal movie audiences.
