So you know that the latest entry in the mainline Gundam anime, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, is going to premiere pretty soon, right? Well, did you know there was a prologue that aired in Japan back on July 14, 2022? Now it seems, they’ve decided to stream in outside Japan at long last, and on YouTube no less.
Prequel from Mercury Inbound
Gundam Info, the official source for Gundam news, has just announced on the English version of their website that they will finally stream Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury — Prologue outside Japan. Meaning that we will finally get to see it here in NA. According to Gundam Info, that prologue episode will make its debut on September 1, 2022. You can watch that prologue on that date right on Gundam Info’s official YouTube channel.
As of this writing though, that date is only 2 weeks away. So you won’t have long to wait to find out what that Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury prologue episode is all about. Presumably, it will introduce us to the main character Suletta Mercury, who is also the first female lead in the entirety of Gundam history. That alone should already be exciting news for Gundam fans tired of an endless series of male leads for every anime series. However, this is just speculation until we actually see that prologue episode. Tune back in 2 weeks later to see if I’m right.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury ~ Details
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury is the 15th and latest mainline entry in the Gundam military sci-fi mecha anime series. Bandai Namco Filmworks (AKA: Sunrise) is the animation studio behind this latest Gundam anime, as they have been for all the previous Gundam anime series. Hajime Yatate (pseudonym for the collective contributions of the Sunrise animation staff) and Yoshiyuki Tomino are the creators of the Gundam franchise. The Witch from Mercury in particular features Hiroshi Kobayashi as the director, with Naohiro Ogata producing. Ichiro Okouchi is the writer, with Takashi Ohmama composing the music.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury will make its Japanese premiere sometime in October 2022. Unfortunately, there’s no information about which streaming service has licensed it. Tune in later to find out when we do.
