News hasn’t been great for DC and Warner Bros. Discovery lately. They’ve been making boneheaded decisions when it comes to their film slate and HBO Max. Now, to cover up that bad news, they’re releasing the details about Joker: Folie À Deux. Deadline had the exclusive report about the release date, and it’s coming on October 4th, 2024. The first Joker film was also released in October of 2019 and grossed $96 million in its opening weekend. Globally, it’s the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. It also garnered plenty of awards attention with actor Joaquin Phoenix winning a Best Actor Oscar. It was also nominated for 11 Oscars.
Joker: Folie à deux was revealed by Director/Writer Todd Phillips in an Instagram post a while ago. The title is a reference to the medical term for a mental disorder that affects two or more people. Joaquin Phoenix is attached to reprise his role and Lady Gaga is set to play Harley Quinn in the film. On top of all that, the film is said to have musical elements and The Wrap is reporting that it’ll take place mostly in Arkham Asylum.
Production is set for December, so we’ll surely get more details around that time.
