It looks like Disney’s adaptation of The Graveyard Book may finally be moving forwards.
The studio revealed Marc Forster will direct the feature film, producing alongside Renée Wolfe under their 2Dux2 banner with Gil Netter. Ben Browning also produces.
The Graveyard Book is a bestselling novel by acclaimed author Neil Gaiman. Published in 2008, it won several literary awards, including the American Newberry Medal. The story follows Nobody “Bod” Owens, a boy raised by the ghosts and supernatural beings of a graveyard. But as Bod learns more about the dangers of the supernatural world, the biggest threat comes from the land of the living: his family’s killer.
David Magee will adapt Gaiman’s novel to script. Magee previously adapted Life of Pi, and wrote the screenplay for Mary Poppins Returns.
Disney recently teamed with Forster and Wolfe for the live-action Winnie the Pooh film, Christopher Robin. 2Dux2 also recently produced A Man Called Otto, which Magee also adapted to script.
Many of Gaiman’s projects have made their way over to the screen in recent years. Soon, Prime Video’s adaptation of Good Omens will return for a second season. And this summer, Netflix will unveil a series adaptation of The Sandman. The Graveyard Book has been in development at Disney for several years now. But with the recent confirmation of its writer, producers, and director, it looks like fans may actually get to see the story on screen after all.
