Crimes of the Future looks like it’s going to be quite the film. Whether it’ll make you squirm from body horror or the themes it’s trying to get across, it’s safe to say that David Cronenberg is back. It stars Viggo Mortensen, Lea Seydoux, Kristen Stewart, Scott Speedman, Welket Bungue, Don McKellar, Yorgos Pirpassopoulos, Tanaya Beatty, Nadia Litz, Lihi Kornowski, and Denis Capezza. Cronenberg writes and directs the film. Here’s the plot synopsis:

As the human species adapts to a synthetic environment, the body undergoes new transformations and mutations. With his partner Caprice (Léa Seydoux), Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen), celebrity performance artist, publicly showcases the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances. Timlin (Kristen Stewart), an investigator from the National Organ Registry, obsessively tracks their movements, which is when a mysterious group is revealed… Their mission – to use Saul’s notoriety to shed light on the next phase of human evolution.

Those with weak constitutions might not want to watch this one. It looks like Cronenberg is going full circle with his career and heading back to what made him famous: body horror. We’ll have to see just how it turns out when Crimes of the Future releases in theaters on June 3rd, 2022.
