If you’re looking for a summer crime thriller, AMC has you covered. The network revealed a first look at noir period piece Dark Winds today.
The upcoming show is based on the iconic Leaphorn & Chee book series by Tony Hillerman. It follows two officers stationed at a remote outpost of the Navajo Nation investigating a series of seemingly unrelated crimes. (No doubt those crimes end up being a bit more related than they first appear.)
Check out the official trailer for Dark Winds below.
The series stars Zahn McClarnon (The Son, Westworld, Fargo) and Kiowa Gordon (The Red Road, Roswell, New Mexico).
Here’s the official synopsis of Dark Winds from AMC:
Set in 1971 on a remote outpost of the Navajo Nation near Monument Valley, Dark Winds follows Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn (McClarnon) of the Tribal Police as he is besieged by a series of seemingly unrelated crimes. The closer he digs to the truth, the more he exposes the wounds of his past. He is joined on this journey by his new deputy, Jim Chee (Gordon). Chee, too, has old scores to settle from his youth on the reservation. Together, the two men battle the forces of evil, each other and their own personal demons on the path to salvation.
Dark Winds comes from creator and executive producer Graham Roland (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan). In addition to starring, McClarnon also serves as an executive producer on the series. Rounding out the EP team are Game of Throne’s George R.R. Martin, Robert Redford, Tina Elmo, Vince Gerardis, and Chris Eyre, who also directs. Vince Calandra (Castle Rock, Sharp Objects) is showrunner and executive producer.
Dark Winds will premiere Sunday, June 12 on AMC and AMC+ with two episodes. Afterwards, new episodes will debut every Sunday. AMC+ subscribers will get advance access to an additional episode each week, beginning June 19.
