If you know me, I have always been a huge fan of Sandra Bullock. So, when I see that she’s in a new movie I’m always the first in line. The Lost City is no different. If you love action-adventure, if you like comedy, if you love a rom-com then this film is for you.

THE LOST CITY IS ROMANCING THE STONE FOR A NEW GENERATION

The Lost City reminds me a lot of another romance novelist who gets swept into an adventure, Romancing the Stone. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. I can enjoy both films equally. While in Romancing the Stone, the novelist has to go on an adventure to save her kidnapped sister, The Lost City takes a slightly different approach.

Sandra Bullock (The Unforgivable) plays Loretta Sage, a romance novelist who writes about exotic places in her adventure romance novels. As we learn, she actually specializes in ancient civilizations and her deceased husband was an anthropologist. So, she took her passion and turned it into something lucrative. 

While promoting her new book, she gets kidnapped by billionaire Abigail Fairfax (Daniel Radcliffe). He believes she is the key to finding a hidden treasure in the ancient civilization she’s been writing about. Her cover model, Alan (Channing Tatum), determined to prove he’s more than just a pretty face, sets off to rescue her with the help of the Navy Seal Jack Trainer (Brad Pitt).

HILARITY, ACTION, AND ROMANCE

The Lost City blends my favorite genres seamlessly. Bullocks rom-com chops are in full force leading us to many laugh-out-loud moments. While Tatum (Dog) is funny in his own right, I honestly wasn’t sure if he would be able to keep up. But to my surprise he does. Bullock brings out his best, and their chemistry is fantastic. 

Brad Pitt (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) throws on his old Legends of the Fall wig and gives us his best smart, handsome rescuer that steals the show while beating up bad guys. Another standout for me is Da’Vine Joy Randolph (High Fidelity) as Loretta’s publisher, Beth. Everyone needs a bestie like her. Someone who is willing to guilt, threaten, and board a plane with a goat and a stranger in order to save your best friend.

I can’t say anything bad about this film. The setting was great, the acting fantastic, and I was entertained the whole way through. 

STAY FOR THE END

Make sure you don’t take off right as the credits roll. In MCU fashion, The Lost City has a mid-credits scene that you do not want to miss.
