Alexandra Daddario is getting witchy. The actress will lead AMC’s upcoming “Mayfair Witches” series.

Variety revealed Daddario’s casting as Rowan today. The character is described as a brilliant doctor who grapples with her fate as the heir to a family of powerful witches.

The series adapts Anne Rice’s The Lives of the Mayfair Witches novels. AMC has given the show an eight-episode first season order, with plans to premiere it later this year.

“Alexandra is a singular talent who has lit up the screen in everything she’s been in and we couldn’t be happier to have her on board leading the cast of a series that will be a centerpiece of an expanding Anne Rice universe on AMC+ and AMC,” said AMC president Dan McDermott.

Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford serve as writers and executive producers on the series. Spalding also serves as showrunner. Rice’s son Christopher also serves as an executive producer for the show.

When AMC first announced the series, Spalding and Ashford said: “The world of witches has fascinated and terrified for centuries, and yet Anne Rice’s particular lens on witches explored something new altogether – women who are powerful, and often brutal, and always committed to subverting our current power structures.

“Mayfair Witches” marks AMC’s second planned adaptation of the works of novelist Anne Rice. The network is also currently producing an Interview with the Vampire series, starring Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson.

Daddario most recently appeared in the HBO series The White Lotus. Her previous credits include Why Women Kill, Baywatch (2017), True Detective, and the Percy Jackson films.
