Fresh is a wild, entertaining, and horrifying look at kinks, murder, and modern dating. The film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival to mixed reviews but has an 88% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Personally, I loved this wild and delicious ride.

WHAT IS FRESH?

Fresh stars Sebastian Stan (Pam and Tommy) and Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People) as Steve and Noa. The two have the most adorable meet-cute in the produce section of the grocery store leading to texting, dating, and so much more. After promising Noa a fun weekend away, Steve turns out to not only be a serial killer of sorts, but also a cannibal. 

While the premise sounds insane, the idea is very reminiscent of Hostel where travelers are kidnapped and tortured for a price. As well as, Sweeney Todd on a whole new level. They even have their own, “A Little Priest” moment that I found horrifying and hilarious. 

WHAT DID I JUST WATCH?

I absolutely LOVED Fresh. While it felt familiar, the film is also crazy in its own right. The writer captures the awfulness of modern dating with the opening scene of Noa on a date with a misogynist. Seriously, the way that date ended happens all too often. Fellas, rejection is okay, you don’t have to lash out.

Stan is at his best! You can tell he is loving playing this dark and twisted character in every frame. Edgar-Jones won my heart in Hulu’s Normal People and I loved seeing her as a new badass final girl. Their chemistry is insane and oozes through the screen. I can understand why she was so into this guy, and why Steve was willing to risk it all. 

The cinematography added to the intensities of the scenes, as well as the absurdity of the moment. In the end, Fresh is 100% worth your time! So, dive in and enjoy!
