If you know someone who grew up in the ’70s and ’80s, they owned a copy of Bat Out Of Hell. The seminal album of the career of Meat Loaf is one of the highest-selling and best albums of its time. The singer and actor passed away at the age of 74 today. He played Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and appeared in many other movies and TV during his lengthy career.

Born Marvin Lee Aday (later changed to Michael), he died by the side of his family, his wife Deborah, and his daughters Pearl and Amanda. His cause of death is not being released to the public.

His family had this to say in a statement:

We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man. From his heart to your souls…don’t ever stop rocking!

Musically, he’s known for the trilogy of albums, Bat Out Of Hell 1,2,3. Bat Out Of Hell is the 35th highest-selling album in U.S. history. He sold over 100 million albums in his career, but his greatest accomplishment might be his turn in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He played the wild and crazy biker, Eddie.
